My name is LaPandria Baker. I am the speech therapist for Phenix City Elementary School. I was born and raised in the Phenix City area. After I obtained my degree from Auburn University-Montgomery in Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology, I returned to Phenix City to pursue my professional career. I recently graduated with a master's degree in early childhood special education from Auburn University. I have been a speech pathologist for 12 years, working in a school setting and a private clinic setting. This is my seventh year at Phenix City Elementary School. It is a joy and a privilege to be surrounded by such a wonderful community that is full of talented children and adults.
I am adventurous and always enjoy trying new things. I enjoy spending time at the beach, the pool, singing, and traveling with friends and family. I also play athletic sports such as softball and kickball. I have two cats, Cassie and Tasha, who are both six years old. They both have interesting personalities that will keep you entertained.
As a speech therapist, I provide therapy services to treat school-aged children, grades K-5, with articulation and phonological disorders, language delays/ disorders, and stuttering disorders. If a child's speech and language difficulties negatively impact his/her academics, social skills or classroom participation, the child may be able to receive speech and language services in the school setting. Screenings, standardized test results, observations, teacher concerns, and parent concerns will be taken into consideration before a child is determined eligible for speech or language services.
Depending on the severity level of the student, speech therapy services may be provided within the classroom setting or pull-out therapy format. Pull-out therapy means that the student participates in speech therapy in a room outside of the classroom. Depending on the severity level and goals, students generally receive weekly half-hour pull-out therapy sessions with groups of one, two or three students at a time.
If your child receives speech therapy services, I will work with your child to help him or her complete the most recent Individual Educational Program (IEP) goals tailored to your child’s needs. I will schedule a meeting with you prior to when your child’s IEP expires so that we can discuss your child’s progress in speech therapy. You will be contacted via phone, e-mail, written note, and/ or student planner.
In the event that you would like a conference, have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at Phenix City Elementary School (334) 732-1160 or email me at [email protected].
